Dorcas Gilbert

Dorcas Sartin Gilbert, 92, of Vanceburg, went to be with her Lord and Savior Friday morning, November 8, 2019, at Maysville Nursing and Rehabilitation.

She was born September 8, 1927, in Lewis County, a daughter of the late George Clifford Sartin Sr. and Alma Evans Sartin.

Dorcas was a member of Vanceburg United Methodist Church and worked for Williams Shoe Company in Portsmouth, Ohio. She retired from US Shoe Company in Vanceburg after 37 years of service. She was a member of Vanceburg City Council from January 1, 2001, until December 31, 2012, and served as a volunteer for the Vanceburg Depot Museum and St. Claire Hospice. Dorcas enjoyed going to church, eating out, shopping and spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.

Dorcas is survived by one son, Jack Allen Gilbert (Brenda) of Garrison; three daughters, Patty Kennard of Vanceburg, Judy Harrison of Titusville, Florida, and Sheila McCall (Roger) of Maysville; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Hansel “Hank” Gilbert; two grandchildren, Danny “Boo” Harrison Jr. and John Anthony Gilbert; one brother, George Clifford Sartin Sr; two sisters, Ethel Reis and Lucille Dummitt Lanham; and two sons-in-law, Tom Kennard Sr. and Danny Harrison Sr.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 11, 2019, at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg with Bro. Bob Sweeny officiating. Interment will follow in Lewis County Memory Gardens at Black Oak.

Friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of services Monday, November 11, 2019, at Dickerson Funeral Home, 110 West Second Street in Vanceburg.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
