Lucy Smith

Dove color rightLucy A. Smith, 84, of Vanceburg, went to be with her Lord and Savior following an extended illness Thursday morning, March 10, 2016, with her family by her side.

Lucy was born in Lewis County on May 13, 1931, to the late Richard Cleveland and Effie Florence Gilbert Montieth. Lucy was of the Pentecostal faith. She was a farmer and homemaker. Lucy loved her children and adored her grandchildren.

Survivors include three daughters, Wilma (Marvin) Chinn, Rita Smith, and Audrey McCane, all of Vanceburg; three sons, Norman (Phyllis) Smith, Gary (Sandra) Smith, and Rickey (Candy) Smith all of Vanceburg; a sister, Ella Jean Montieth of Vanceburg; a brother, Charlie Montieth of Vanceburg; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Smith, on October 26, 1997; a daughter, Dorothy Smith; three sisters, Florence Corns, Wilma Montieth, and Georgia Wright; eight brothers, Carl Monteith, John Monteith, Richard Monteith, Harry Monteith, Odie Raymond Monteith, Eddie Monteith, Paul Monteith, and Roy Ruben Montieth; and four grandchildren, Glenn Gilliam, Joey Smith, Tena Smith, and Susan Kay Smith.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, March 13, 2016, with Bro. Tony Corns officiating. Burial to follow at Nolen Cemetery on Laurel Road.

Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Saturday and from 8:00 a.m. until the time of services Sunday at Gaydos Funeral Home, 159 Second Street in Vanceburg.
