Local damage attributed to straight line winds

The home of Matt Polley and his sons was destroyed by high winds last week as a strong storm system passed through the area.

A system of severe storms moving through the area last week resulted in extensive damage to multiple locations in Lewis County as winds here reached an estimated 85 miles-per-hour.

That same system spawned at least 10 tornadoes in south-central Ohio and Northern Kentucky, according to reports from the National Weather Service in Wilmington, Ohio.

The most severe damage in Lewis County was reported in an area near the intersection of KY 57 and Quicks Run Road.
