Joyce Silvey

Audrey “Joyce” Stafford Silvey, 89, of Vanceburg, passed away Monday evening, February 24, 2020, at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.

She was born August 14, 1930, in Lewis County, a daughter of the late Thomas and Lola May Abbott Stafford.

Joyce was a member of Vanceburg United Methodist Church. She graduated from Lamar High School in Houston, Texas, in 1949, and attended Morehead State University.

Joyce worked for US Shoe for 18 years, Golden Living Center in Vanceburg, and taught for the Lewis County School System. She also worked for Kegley Furniture and Appliance and in her son’s grocery store.

Joyce volunteered several years with the local hospice program. She enjoyed attending Ruggles Camp, teaching Sunday School, spending time with her family, gardening, growing flowers, attending the Grand Ole’ Opry, going to classic car shows and cruise-ins, and attending local music shows.

Joyce is survived by two sons, Anthony “Tony” Silvey and James Silvey Jr. (Sue) of Vanceburg; one daughter, Kellie Silvey Stafford (Ray) of Morehead; one grandson, James “Erik” Silvey (Brittany) of Vanceburg; and two great-grandchildren; Mialyn Silvey and Ledger Silvey; one step-grandson, Derek Stafford (Kayla) of Morehead; and a special family, Maggie (Jesse) Atley and Tate Morgan of Vanceburg whom she loved dearly. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, James Hobart Silvey.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 28, 2020, at Vanceburg United Methodist Church with Bro. Bob Sweeney and Bro. Terry Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in Silvey Family Cemetery at Vanceburg.

Friends may visit from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 28, 2020, at Vanceburg United Methodist Church, 111 Second Street in Vanceburg.

Pallbearers will be Anthony “Tony” Silvey, James Silvey Jr., Ray Stafford, James Erik Silvey, Derek Stafford, and Jesse Morgan. George Abbott and Steve Abbott will serve as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Joyce’s memory to Vanceburg United Methodist Church, 111 Second Street, Vanceburg, KY 41179.

Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg is caring for all arrangements.
