Johnny E. “Rooty” Monroe Jr., 53, of Vanceburg, died at SOMC Hospice Center in Portsmouth, Ohio, Thursday, September 3, 2020, after a brief illness.

Rooty, as he was known by family and friends, was born in Portsmouth, Ohio, July 4, 1967, a son of Alice L. Carrington Monroe and the late Johnny E. Monroe Sr. Rooty graduated from Pendleton County High School in 1986. He worked at Ron’s Pic-Pac in Vanceburg and loved to mow yards all around Vanceburg. You could always see him on his John Deere riding mower going to and from his jobs. In his spare time he would love to go fishing. Rooty never met a stranger and talked to everyone he met. He was of the Christian faith.

Survivors include his mother, Alice L. Carrington Monroe of Cincinnati, Ohio; a sister, Janice Bivens and her fiancée, Robert Perry, of Cincinnati, Ohio; his brothers, Billy (Angie) Monroe of Williamsburg, Ohio, Jimmy Monroe and his fiancée, Renee Reno, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Bobby (Melinda) Monroe of Vanceburg. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive who also will mourn his passing.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 8, 2020, at Gaydos Funeral Home, 159 Second Street in Vanceburg, with Bro. Larry Carrington officiating. Burial will follow in Black Oak Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday, September 7, 2020, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.
