GR “Poke” Queen Jr.

Dr. G.R. “Poke” Queen Jr., 96, of Vanceburg, passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2016, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

Dr. Queen was born in Portsmouth, Ohio, May 28, 1920, a son of the late George R. Queen Sr. and Grace Howard Queen.

He is survived by many relatives.

In 1943 Dr. Queen graduated from the Louisville University School of Dentistry. He entered the United States Army where he served three years. Dr. Queen set up his practice in Greenup where he practiced for 37 years, retiring in 1983.

Services will be at Vanceburg United Methodist Church at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 6, 2016 with visitation beginning at 8:00 a.m. and lasting until the service hour.

Bro. Tom Cox Jr. will be officiating at the service and Pastor Janis Barton will give the closing prayer. Burial will follow in Black Oak Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Ashland Community Hospice, 1480 Carter Ave, Ashland, KY 41101, or Vanceburg United Methodist Church, 515 Second Street, Vanceburg, KY 41179.

Services are under the direction of Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore.
