Board of Ed approves drug-detecting K-9 visits

Members of the Lewis County Board of Education gave approval Monday for drug-detecting dog units to visit the high school and middle school campuses during a regular session of the board.

Superintendent Jamie Weddington said K-9 units from the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office and Kentucky State Police have been visiting the schools and allowing dogs to scan lockers, classrooms and parking areas for the past several years in an attempt to detect illegal drugs that may be present.
