Betty Lou Barrett

Betty Lou Howell Barrett, 85, of Bucyrus, Ohio, passed away Thursday, October 27, 2016. 

She was born November 12, 1930, at Carrs to Wesley and Maud (Cropper) Howell. She was the ninth of 11 children and grew up along the Ohio River on a dairy and tobacco farm. Mrs. Barrett attended elementary school at Carrs and high school in Vanceburg.

On October 11, 1949, she married John Harold Barrett in Lewis County. Mr. Barrett preceded her in death on February 15, 1992.  They have three surviving children: DiAnn Gail (C. Dean) Mills of Houston, Texas, Deborah Joan (John A.) Fowler of Mansfield, Ohio, and John Anthony (Cathy Nielsen) Barrett of Erie, Pennsylvania.

Mrs. Barrett was known fondly as Mamaw to her grandchildren: Benjamin F. Egert, Brian J. Egert, Brett M. Egert, Beau D. Egert, Zane M. Barrett, Angela N. Fraccica, and Jason A. Barrett. Great-grandchildren loved to talk with her and sit in her lap: Grace A. Egert, Lane W. Egert, Ruby F. Egert, Peyton E. Gerken, Samuel A. Gerken, and Isabella H. Barrett. Mrs. Barrett is also survived by two sisters, Doris Mackey of Concord, and Fern Henderson of Vanceburg; two brothers, Bernard Howell of Morehead and Gene Howell of Bucyrus, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Leroy Howell, Warner Howell, and Harry Howell; and three sisters, Oleta Polley, Alice Howell, and Beatrice Vergne.

Mrs. Barrett worked at Swan Rubber in Bucyrus from October 21, 1957, until she retired on February 15, 1994.  She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where she was active prior to her illness. She had resided in Crawford County for over 65 years.

Services will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at 1:00 p.m. Monday and the family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.  Rev.
