State snowfighters are preparing for what could be the season’s first action as the National Weather Service expects a wintry mix of weather this weekend.
Crews in all northeast Kentucky counties will pretreat roadways today in advance of freezing rain or snow by applying brine, or saltwater, to travel lanes. The water evaporates, leaving lines of salt crystals on the pavement that mix with ice or snow to prevent freezing.
