Paul Himes

Paul Himes, 75, of Lafayette, Indiana, died at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at Mulberry Health and Retirement Community in Mulberry, Indiana.

Born March 27. 1934, in Lewis County, he was a son of the late Charles and Beatrice Kennedy Himes. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He worked at Westminster Village in West Lafayette as a maintenance supervisor.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Roslyn K. Kettering, on January 9, 2004.

Survivors include four children, Charles R. (Sarah) Himes and Linda (Lloyd) Burch, both of Indianapolis, Indiana, Dawn Himes of Lafayette, and Brian Himes of California; four brothers, Elwood (Libby) Himes of Columbus, Ohio, Ernie (Rosemary) Himes of Lafayette, Silas (Wilma) Himes of Attica, Indiana, and Harold (June) Himes of Flemingsburg; and three grandchildren, Jeremy, Allison and Taylor.

A memorial service was conducted at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel with Rev. J. William Overbay officiating. Interment was at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Kathleen Stafford

Kathleen Burriss Stafford, 78, of Vanceburg, died at 12:48 a.m. Monday, June 15, 2009, at her home following a brief illness.

Born April 22, 1931, at Vanceburg to the late James and Leona Lewis Burriss Tolle, she was a homemaker and farmer, and loved to garden. She was a 17 year employee of US Shoe in Vanceburg.

Survivors include one daughter, Jill (William) Vaughn of Camp Dix; one son, Brent (Kathy) Stafford of Vansant, Virginia; one sister, Eileen Messer of Mansfield, Ohio; one brother, Mitchell (Robyn) Tolle of Vanceburg; four grandchildren, Andrea Applegate, Derek Sams, Drew Stafford and Bree Stafford; and two great-grandchildren, Leah Potter and Gracie Potter.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Jack Elmo Stafford, on July 22, 2003; one sister, Barbara Hegedeus; and three brothers, James Lewis Burriss, Allen Burriss and Donald Burriss.

Services were at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at Gaydos Funeral Home in Vanceburg with Bro. John Lewis officiating. Burial was in Liles Cemetery at Camp Dix.

Kerby Kinsel

Kerby Dean Kinsel, 60, of Boca Raton, Florida, died Sunday, March 29, 2009.

 

Born December 3, 1948 to the late Louis and Marion Kinsel, he was a 1966 graduate of Lewis County High School, a US Army veteran having served from 1968 to 1971, and was retired from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.

 

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Sandra Jo Stafford Kinsel; one son, Stephen Fredrick Kinsel of Boca Raton; one sister, Ronna Kinsel of Troy, Ohio; four brothers, Wendell (Sharon) Kinsel of Mt. Orab, Ohio, Neldon (Sissy) Kinsel, Jan (Linda Robinson) Kinsel and Lyndon Kinsel, all of Vanceburg; an uncle, Walter Diamond of Mansfield, Ohio; his mother-in-law, Margaret Stafford; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Hudson Memorial Chapel in Delray Beach, Florida, was in charge of arrangements.

 

A memorial service/monument dedication was held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 27, 2009, at Lewis County Memory Gardens at Black Oak.

Ray C. Dyer

Ray C. Dyer, 74, of Vanceburg, died Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at Ridgeway Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in Owingsville.

 

Born April 28, 1935, at Vanceburg to Clarence Dyer and Sarah Delong Dyer, he was an ironworker with Local Union #22 in Indianapolis, Indiana, and retired after 30 years of service. He was of the Christian Faith and was a member of the National Rifle Association.

 

Survivors include his wife, Rosa Click Dyer of Vanceburg; four daughters, Deburnka K. Dyer of Rushville, Indiana, Shena (Donald) Hobbs of Woodward, Oklahoma, Sheila (Richard) Rupprecht of Norman, Oklahoma, and Serena (Sonny) Thomas of Morehead; one son, Joseph Reed (Elizabeth) Dyer of Camp Dix; one sister, Pauline Hill of Vanceburg; one brother, Walter Dyer of Bucyrus, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by two sons, Bronco Shane Dyer and Nathan Sam Dyer; and six brothers and sisters.

 

Graveside services were at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 6, 2009, at Morgan Cemetery at the Head of Grassy with Bro. Ermel Bloomfield and Bro. Frank Hobbs officiating.

 

Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg was in charge of arrangements.

Ruby Rigdon

Ruby Agnes Rigdon, 92, of Vanceburg, died Sunday afternoon, June 21, 2009, at Golden LivingCenter in Vanceburg.

Born March 21, 1917, to the late John Howard and Nora Conley Elliott, she was a homemaker and farmer and had been employed as a cook at Lewis County High School for more than 20 years. She had served as a postmaster at Glenn Springs and was a member of Clarksburg Christian Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Mary Kathryn (Lowell) McClurg of Vanceburg; two sons, Richard (Wanda) Rigdon and Alden G. Rigdon, both of Vanceburg; three sisters, Evelyn McKee of West Union, Ohio, Garnett Holt of Tollesboro and Louise Roope of Radford, Virginia; seven grandchildren; one step-grandchild; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Hazel Rigdon, on March 1, 1975; one daughter, Barbara Jane Cropper; one son, Harry Rigdon Jr., two sisters, Edna Clark and Ruth Thurman; and four brothers, Elmer Elliott, Roy Elliott, George Elliott and John Howard Elliott Jr.

Services were at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at Gaydos Funeral Home in Vanceburg with Dr. Howard Wilson officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Garden of Memories in Mason County.

Bascom "Bat" Campbell

Bascom "Bat" Campbell, 79, of Science Hill, died Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at Britthaven of Somerset.

Born June 1, 1930, in Unicoi County, Tennessee, to the late Harvey and Sinda Willis Campbell, he was a retired woodworker and member of Pulaski Baptist Church, and was a member of the Science Hill and Somerset Masonic Lodges.

Survivors include three sisters, Tempie Campbell and Christine Brewer, both of Latonia, and Dorthy (Gene) Michael of Burlington; four brothers, Conley (Alma) Campbell and Orley (Betty) Campbell, both of Science Hill, Herman (Jean) Campbell of Somerset and Don (Debbie) Campbell of Ferguson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Nolen Campbell, on December 14, 2006; and one brother-in-law, Wilmore Brewer.

Services were at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 27, 2009, at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home in Science Hill with Bro. Sammie Adkins officiating. Burial was in Nolen Cemetery at Laurel.

Helen S. Lowder

Helen S. Lowder, 91, of South Shore, died Monday, June 29, 2009, at the South Shore Nursing and Rehabilitation center in South Shore.

Born at Camp Dix on June 25, 1918, to the late Judge William Thomas Stone and Martha Belle Stamper Stone, she was a retired school teacher after 40 years with the Lewis County and Greenup County School Systems. She was a graduate of Lewis County High School and Morehead State University and was a member of the Greenup County Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of the South Shore First Christian Church in South Shore.

Survivors include her husband, Dorsel H. Lowder; two sons, Steve Lowder of Maysville and Eddie Lowder of Lexington; and granddaughter, Michelle Puckett; and a great-granddaughter, Caitlyn Puckett.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Manilla Childress, Stella Stone and Dorothy VanWinkle; five brothers, Arthur Stone, Mark Stone and Taft Stone, and two infant brothers; and a grandson, Eric Lowder.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 2, 2009, at Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore with Phillip LeMaster and Bill Hayden officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery at Quincy.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of services Thursday at the funeral home.

Mildred F. Pence

Mildred F. Pence, 86, of West Chester, Ohio, died Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at her home.

Born march 12, 1923, in Lewis County to the late Emery and Irene Hurst, she was a member of the South Vienna Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Edward Pence; three daughters, Karen Santo of Thornville, Ohio, Linda McIntire of West Chester and Donna Whitledge of Fairfield, Ohio; three sons, Charles Williams of Springfield, Ohio, George E. Pence of Greenville, Indiana, and Paul Pence of South Vienna, Ohio; one brother, Lloyd Hurst of Tipp City, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services were at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 27, 2009, at Jackson, Lytle and Williams Funeral Home in Springfield with Pastor Craig Grammar officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Burial Park.

Hubert F. Dyer

Hubert Forest Dyer, 64, of Bucyrus, Ohio, died Tuesday morning, June 30, 2009, at Heartland of Bucyrus following a long illness.

Born February 18, 1945, at Rock Run to the late Mickel W. and Dorothy M. Cooley Dyer, he was a veteran of the US Army, having served from 1962 -1965. He received his GED from the Army, was a laborer for 37 years at Swan Rubber Company in Bucyrus and enjoyed collecting.

Survivors include his wife, Connie Oberlander Denzer, whom he married August 27, 2006; one daughter, Kathleen (Brian) Knecht of Bucyrus; one son, William Dyer of Bucyrus; three sisters, Catherine Liles of Bucyrus, Betty Entler of Florida and Faye Zornes of North Carolina; two brothers, Richard (Karen) Dyer of Bucyrus and Ronald Dyer of Washington; two grandchildren; Michele Knecht and Jason Knecht; several nieces and nephews; and his first wife, Linda Hart, who remains a friend.

He was preceded in death by four infant siblings.

There will be no services. Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home in Bucyrus is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 3, 2009, at the funeral home.

Dustin Marshall

Dustin Edward Marshall, 21, of Salyersville, died Saturday, June 6, 2009, at King's Daughters' Medical Center in Ashland.

Born January 15, 1988, in Lexington to Ricky Marshall and Joyce Bailey Marshall, he loved to talk and never met a stranger. He was the best known student in his school. He was born with spina bifida and was paralyzed from the waist down.

In addition to his parents, who reside at Salyersville, survivors include one brother, Brandon Marshall of Georgetown; and paternal grandparents, Carl and Ruby Marshall of Salyersville.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Chad Marshall, who was stillborn; and great-grandparents James "Jim" and Elizabeth Marshall.

Services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at Salyersville Funeral Home in Salyersville.
