Milton Harold Fraley Sr.

Milton Harold Fraley Sr., 68, of Garrison died at 10:15 a.m. Sunday, February 7, 2010, at his home.

Born at Garrison on June 26, 1941, to the late Walter and Cassie Marie Middaugh Fraley, he was a logger and had worked for Townsend Tree Service. He was a member of the Lloyd Ridge Pentecostal Church.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Lois Rister Fraley; two daughters, Linda (Mark) Cassidy and Frances Taulbee, both of South Shore; four sons, Mikel Dale (Joyce) Fraley of Columbus, Ohio, Jerry Fraley of West Portsmouth, Ohio, Terry Fraley and Milton (Arlene) Fraley Jr., both of Garrison; two sisters, Garnet Stamper and Margene Witten, both of Garrison; two brothers, Fred Fraley and Harry Fraley, both of Garrison; eight grandchildren, Brian Fraley, Jessica Fraley, Michelle Fraley, Marcella Cassidy, Abigail Cassidy, Beulah Fraley, Mikel Fraley Jr. and Darold Fraley; and several adopted grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Carrie Madden, Beulah Rister and Rinda Logan; and one brother, George Fraley.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 11, 2010, at Lloyd Ridge Pentecostal Church with Bro. Mark Cassidy and Pastor Anthony F. Rister officiating. Burial will be in Dummitt Cemetery on Dummitt Ridge.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. Wednesday until the hour of services Thursday at the church. Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg is in charge of arrangements.

Olive Jordan Hacker

Olive Jordan Hacker, 88, of Firebrick, died Thursday, January 21, 2010, at Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, Ohio.

Born in Firebrick to the late Martin Jordan and Nellie Harr Jordan, she was a homemaker. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Portsmouth.

Survivors include five daughters, Joyce Sullens, Pam Hacker, both of Portsmouth, Carol Hacker of Firebrick, Delrita Gilliland of Lucasville, Ohio, and Teresa Pierce of Kettering, Ohio; three sons, David Hacker, Dennis Hacker, both of Somerset, and Dale Hacker of Gallatin, Tennessee; two sisters, Ethel Angel of St. Paul and Opal Lewis of Ecorse, Michigan; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harmon Hacker, on June 30, 1981; three sisters, Thelma Lewis, Delores Fitch and Beulah Jordan; and two brothers, Ted Jordan and Wayne Jordan.

Services were at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, January 24, 2010, at Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore with Pastor Kenneth Ferguson and Rev. Raymond Lewis officiating. Burial was in Collier Memorial Gardens at South Portsmouth.

Melvina McClurg

Melvina McClurg, 74, of Rock Creek Road, Quincy, died at 10:55 a.m. Friday, January 22, 2010, at Southern Ohio Hospice in Portsmouth, Ohio, following an extended illness.

Born in Floyd County on June 27, 1935, to the late Lloyd and Grace Thornsberry Johnson, she was a homemaker and member of the Jehovah's Witnesses in Portsmouth since 1964.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Marion Ferris McClurg; three daughters, Patsy Marie Eccard of Garrison, Elizabeth Rose Bientias of San Angelo, Texas, and Pamela Ann Prichard of Barboursville, West Virginia; three sons, Michael Clayton Howard of Lexington, David (Brenda) Howard of Vanceburg and Marion Ferris (Nina) McClurg Jr. of Highland Heights; six sisters, Juanita Hiden of South Point, Ohio, Charlotte Walters of West Palm Beach, Florida, Jeanette Holland of Garrison, Pearl Snell of Highland Heights, Phyllis Spriggs of Lexington, and Geraldine Strunk of Versailles; one brother, Bobby Johnson of Chillicothe, Ohio; one half-brother, Derwood Johnson of North Carolina; 18 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sisters in infancy, Betty Johnson, Marjorie Johnson and Christina Johnson; and two brothers, Allen Johnson and Alton Johnson.

There were no services or visitation. Gaydos Funeral Home in Vanceburg was in charge of local arrangements.

Gregory Lee Ginn

Gregory Lee Ginn, 53, of Maysville, died Friday morning, January 22, 2010, at Meadowview Regional Medical Center in Maysville.

He was born in Mason County on January 16, 1957, to Mildred Moore Ginn and the late Bruce Ginn.

In addition to his mother, survivors include one daughter, Mindy Ludlow of Tacoma, Washington; one son, Michael Gregory (Dorothy) Ginn of Nicholasville; one sister, Seline (Johnny) Kirk of Maysville; and three brothers, Larry Roger (Jenny) Ginn of Radcliff, Johnny (Mary) Ginn of Tollesboro and Jeff (Amy) Ginn of Maysville.

Services were at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 25, 2010, at Brell and Son Funeral Home in Maysville with Bro. Arthur Moore officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery.

James Robert Highfield

James Robert Highfield, 53, of Maysville, died Saturday, January 23, 2010, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.

Born in Mason County on February 3, 1956, to the late Otto and Opal Prather Highfield, he was a farmer.

Survivors include five sisters, Paula Palmer of Foxport, Martha Conn of Little Cabin Creek, Delma McCall of Big Cabin Creek, Linda Highfield and Glenda Highfield, both of Maysville; a special companion, Tiffany Hall; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Debbie Poe Highfield; and three brothers, Mitchell Highfield, Jerry Highfield and Ricky Highfield.

Services were at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 27 at Barbour and Son Funeral Home in Tollesboro. Burial was in East Fork Cemetery.

Jeffrey R. Ginn

Jeffrey R. Ginn 59, of Vanceburg, died at 5:41 a.m. Sunday, January 24, 2010, at Cornerstone Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia, following an extended illness.

Born in Vanceburg on October 18, 1950, to Mary Spriggs Lewis of Vanceburg and the late BL Ginn, he was a self-employed Vanceburg businessman having owned and operated Ginn Paving Company for more than 30 years. He was of the Christian faith.

In addition to his mother, survivors include two sons, Jeffrey Lane (Teresa) Ginn of Hudson, Wisconsin, and Michael Ginn of Vanceburg; two sisters, Jeanie Thomas of Huntington, West Virginia, and Susan Ginn Noy of Vanceburg; two half-brothers, Bernest Ginn Jr. of Bucyrus, Ohio, and Sammy Ginn of Vanceburg; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Douglas Ginn, Jacob Ginn, Brittany Ginn and Morgan Ginn; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a half-sister, Peggy Ruark.

Services were at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 27, 2009, at Gaydos Funeral Home in Vanceburg with Bro. Tony Corns officiating. Burial was in Lewis County Memory Gardens at Black Oak.

Owen Hockley

Owen Hockley, 76, of Thomasville, North Carolina, formerly of Iron Hill, died Tuesday, January, 26, 2010, at Liberty Wood Nursing Center.

Born in Carter County on July 10, 1933, to the late Claude and Alice Colley Hockley, he was a retired heavy equipment operator.

Survivors include one daughter, Dianne Collins of Thomasville; three sons, Steve Hockley and Keith Hockley, both of Thomasville, and Kevin Hockley of Greenup; two brothers, Frank "Bud" Hockley of Argillite and Glen Hockley of Vanceburg; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services were at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 30, 2010, at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson. Burial was in Kiser-McGinnis Cemetery.

David A. Moore

David A. Moore, 39, of Cooper Street in Vanceburg, died unexpectedly at 8:01 p.m. Sunday, January 31, 2010.

Born in Maysville on November 25, 1970, to Charles W. Moore and Bonnie Montieth Rigdon, both of Vanceburg, he had worked for Browning Corporation in Maysville, Louisville Forge Company in Georgetown and Honda Company in Marysville, Ohio. He was baptized into the Christian faith at Jesus Christ of Light in Manila, Philippines.

In addition to his parents, survivors include one sister, Laura Jean Moore of Vanceburg; one brother, Charles Wendell Moore Jr. of Vanceburg; a niece, Tana Moore of Vanceburg; a nephew, Taylor Adams of Vanceburg; and a special friend, Candi Keaton of Beaver, Ohio.

Services were at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 3, 2010, at Gaydos Funeral Home in Vanceburg with Bro. Danny Overton officiating. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery at Ribolt.

Jack R. Osman

Jack R. Osman, 76, a prominent pharmacist of Clarksburg, died Tuesday, February 2, 2010, at his home.

Born in Manchester, Ohio, on August 18, 1933, to Laruel A. Osman and Doris Queen Osman, he was a 1951 graduate of Lewis County High School and earned degrees in chemistry and biology at Morehead State University. After a teaching stint at McKell High School and serving in the US Army, he graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy and returned to Vanceburg with his wife and two sons. They purchased Block's Drug Store.

In 1968 the family built Osman's Pharmacy in Vanceburg and operated it until 1995. Since that time he has continued to practice pharmacy and has been employed by K-Mart Pharmacy in Grayson for the past several years. He was a member of the Clarksburg Christian Church and Polar Star Lodge. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a former member of the Vanceburg Lions Club. He was one of the organizers of First National Bank of Lewis County and served on its board of directors for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Parker Osman; two sons, Jack R. Osman Jr. and Jeffrey L. (Sonya) Osman both of Lexington; four granddaughters, Brittany, Caitlin, Ashley and Madison, all of Lexington; one brother, James R. (Melba) Osman of South Shore; two cousins, Dr. GR Queen and Tom Cox, both of Vanceburg; two aunts, Bessie Jean Crawford of West Union, Ohio, and Virginia Sotovia of Columbus, Ohio; four nieces; and one nephew.

Services were at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February, 5, 2010, at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg with Dr. "Minister" Brad Walden officiating. Burial was in Lewis County Memory Gardens.

Masonic Rites were given at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February, 4, 2010, at the funeral home. Military graveside rites were accorded by VFW Monte Lewis Stamm Post 5438 of Vanceburg.

Larry M. Altvater

Larry M. "Mike" Altvater, 63, of Vanceburg, died at 10:10 a.m. Saturday, February 6, 2010, at his home.

Born in Wharton, Ohio, on November 4, 1946, to the late Kenneth M. and Myrtle Parish Altvater, he was a sawmill worker.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Nancy Gardner Altvater; three daughters, Kristy (Matthew) Pack of Wheelersburg, Ohio, Misty Altvater (Charles Phares) and Tara (Joe) Burbrink, both of Vanceburg; one grandchild raised at home, Michael Rowe; two sisters, Audrey Hill of Seymore, Indiana, and Joyce (Richard) Ralph of Kenton, Ohio; five brothers, Dwight (Linda) Altvater of Marion, Ohio, Pete Altvater of Wooster, Ohio, Donnie (Charlotte) Altvater of Findlay, Ohio, Jerry (Susie) Altvater and Richhard (Mary) Altvater, both of Upper Sandusky, Ohio; and eight grandchildren, Anthony Bonner, Desirae Cardwell, Kara Cardwell, Dana Evans, William, Burbrink, Carol Burbrink, Elizabeth Burbrink and Emily Burbrink.

He was preceded in death by one son, Larry Michael Altvater Jr.; four sisters, Margie Balsworth, Judy Helphenstine, Betty Chandler and Jo Ann Altvater; and three brothers, Robert Altvater, Paul Altvater and Gail Altvater.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 9, 2010, at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg with Bro. Tim Underwood officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery at Quincy.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Monday and from 8:00 a.m. until the hour of services Tuesday at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent at www.dickersonfh.com
