Fred Young Jr.

Fred Young Jr., 88, of Vanceburg, died Tuesday, January 3, 2012, at Hospice of Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, Ohio.

Mr. Young was born July 9, 1923, at Camp Dix, a son of the late Fred Young Sr. and Roberta Howard Young. He was retired from US Shoe Corporation and had previously worked for Williams Shoe Manufacturing. He was a WWII Army veteran and a Kentucky Colonel.

Survivors include two daughter, Delilah Crawford of Vanceburg and Marquita Kaufman and husband, Bryon of Lima, Ohio; five grandchildren, Aaron Crawford, Anthony Crawford, Frank Kaufman, Keith Kaufman and Chris Kaufman; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Robena Lawson Young, who died on April 2, 2009; three brothers, Thomas Young, George Young and Bruce Young; and four sisters, Opal Stafford, Dorothy Word, Irene Shuey and Emma H. Jordan.

Services were at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 7, 2012, at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg with Rev. Tom Cox officiating.

Burial was in Lewis County Memory Gardens at Black Oak with graveside military rites accorded by Monte Lewis Stamm VFW Post 5438.
