Leotis Fannin
Leotis Fannin, 85, of Vanceburg, died at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, January 14, 2010, at Golden Living Center in Vanceburg following an extended illness.
Born November 16, 1924, in Lewis County to the late Russell and Mary Hall Fannin, he was of the Baptist faith and a farmer.
Survivors include one son, Douglas (Linda) Fannin of Flemingsburg; four sisters, Goldie (Don) Wallace of Graydon, Verna (Mike) Tackett of Olive Hill, Gladys (David) Hayes of Crestline, Ohio, and Ann (Kyle) Gregory of Bucyrus, Ohio; one brother, Carl (Berta) Fannin of Vanceburg; three grandchildren, Evan Robinson of Richmond, Seth Lee Fannin of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Tracy Leigh Diaz; and two great-grandchildren, Kyra Lee Fannin of Las Vegas and Izzabella.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Evans Fannin, in 2001; a son, David Lee Fannin; five sisters, Sandra Noblit, Opal Toller, Rebecca Carroll, Julie Belle Dyer and Helen Fannin; one brother, Reynold "Toot" Fannin; and two nephews, Randy Noblit and Douglas Dyer.
Services were at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, January 17, 2010, at Gaydos Funeral Home in Vanceburg with Pastor Woodrow Rayburn officiating. Burial was in Morgan Cemetery at Head of Grassy.
Milton Harold Fraley Sr.
Milton Harold Fraley Sr., 68, of Garrison died at 10:15 a.m. Sunday, February 7, 2010, at his home.
Born at Garrison on June 26, 1941, to the late Walter and Cassie Marie Middaugh Fraley, he was a logger and had worked for Townsend Tree Service. He was a member of the Lloyd Ridge Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Lois Rister Fraley; two daughters, Linda (Mark) Cassidy and Frances Taulbee, both of South Shore; four sons, Mikel Dale (Joyce) Fraley of Columbus, Ohio, Jerry Fraley of West Portsmouth, Ohio, Terry Fraley and Milton (Arlene) Fraley Jr., both of Garrison; two sisters, Garnet Stamper and Margene Witten, both of Garrison; two brothers, Fred Fraley and Harry Fraley, both of Garrison; eight grandchildren, Brian Fraley, Jessica Fraley, Michelle Fraley, Marcella Cassidy, Abigail Cassidy, Beulah Fraley, Mikel Fraley Jr. and Darold Fraley; and several adopted grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Carrie Madden, Beulah Rister and Rinda Logan; and one brother, George Fraley.
Services were at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 11, 2010, at Lloyd Ridge Pentecostal Church with Bro. Mark Cassidy and Pastor Anthony F. Rister officiating. Burial was in Dummitt Cemetery on Dummitt Ridge.
Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg was in charge of arrangements.
Gregory Lee Ginn
Gregory Lee Ginn, 53, of Maysville, died Friday morning, January 22, 2010, at Meadowview Regional Medical Center in Maysville.
He was born in Mason County on January 16, 1957, to Mildred Moore Ginn and the late Bruce Ginn.
In addition to his mother, survivors include one daughter, Mindy Ludlow of Tacoma, Washington; one son, Michael Gregory (Dorothy) Ginn of Nicholasville; one sister, Seline (Johnny) Kirk of Maysville; and three brothers, Larry Roger (Jenny) Ginn of Radcliff, Johnny (Mary) Ginn of Tollesboro and Jeff (Amy) Ginn of Maysville.
Services were at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 25, 2010, at Brell and Son Funeral Home in Maysville with Bro. Arthur Moore officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Jeffrey R. Ginn
Jeffrey R. Ginn 59, of Vanceburg, died at 5:41 a.m. Sunday, January 24, 2010, at Cornerstone Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia, following an extended illness.
Born in Vanceburg on October 18, 1950, to Mary Spriggs Lewis of Vanceburg and the late BL Ginn, he was a self-employed Vanceburg businessman having owned and operated Ginn Paving Company for more than 30 years. He was of the Christian faith.
In addition to his mother, survivors include two sons, Jeffrey Lane (Teresa) Ginn of Hudson, Wisconsin, and Michael Ginn of Vanceburg; two sisters, Jeanie Thomas of Huntington, West Virginia, and Susan Ginn Noy of Vanceburg; two half-brothers, Bernest Ginn Jr. of Bucyrus, Ohio, and Sammy Ginn of Vanceburg; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Douglas Ginn, Jacob Ginn, Brittany Ginn and Morgan Ginn; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a half-sister, Peggy Ruark.
Services were at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 27, 2009, at Gaydos Funeral Home in Vanceburg with Bro. Tony Corns officiating. Burial was in Lewis County Memory Gardens at Black Oak.
Olive Jordan Hacker
Olive Jordan Hacker, 88, of Firebrick, died Thursday, January 21, 2010, at Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, Ohio.
Born in Firebrick to the late Martin Jordan and Nellie Harr Jordan, she was a homemaker. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Portsmouth.
Survivors include five daughters, Joyce Sullens, Pam Hacker, both of Portsmouth, Carol Hacker of Firebrick, Delrita Gilliland of Lucasville, Ohio, and Teresa Pierce of Kettering, Ohio; three sons, David Hacker, Dennis Hacker, both of Somerset, and Dale Hacker of Gallatin, Tennessee; two sisters, Ethel Angel of St. Paul and Opal Lewis of Ecorse, Michigan; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harmon Hacker, on June 30, 1981; three sisters, Thelma Lewis, Delores Fitch and Beulah Jordan; and two brothers, Ted Jordan and Wayne Jordan.
Services were at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, January 24, 2010, at Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore with Pastor Kenneth Ferguson and Rev. Raymond Lewis officiating. Burial was in Collier Memorial Gardens at South Portsmouth.
Elza Hartley
Elza Hartley, 80, of Vanceburg, died at 11:40 a.m. Thursday, January 21, 2010, at Meadowview Regional Medical Center in Maysville following an extended illness.
Born in Carter City on May 15, 1929, to the late Roy and Julia Marie Bloomfield Hartley, he was a construction worker and worked in the logging industry. He was a US Army veteran and was of the Christian faith.
Survivors include one daughter, Debbie Sue Hartley of Garrison; two sons, Gale Hartley and Tim Hartley, both of Garrison; three sisters, Lena Kamer and Ethel Collins, both of Garrison, and Laura Mae Strausbaugh of Columbus, Ohio; three brothers, Thurman Hartley of Argillite, Marvin Hartley of Lucasville, Ohio, and Don Hartley of Columbus; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Mondadiane Hartley, in infancy; a son, Gary Hartley; two sisters, Lilla Mae Hartley and Helen Frances Hartley; one brother, Vernon Hartley; his first wife, Doris Lee Kamer Hartley; and his second wife, Alice Hartley.
Services were at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, January 24, 2010, at Gaydos Funeral Home in Vanceburg with Pastor Bud Burnette officiating. Burial was in Laurel Point Cemetery at Laurel.
Military Graveside Rites were accorded by Monte Lewis Stamm VFW Post 5438 of Vanceburg.
James Robert Highfield
James Robert Highfield, 53, of Maysville, died Saturday, January 23, 2010, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.
Born in Mason County on February 3, 1956, to the late Otto and Opal Prather Highfield, he was a farmer.
Survivors include five sisters, Paula Palmer of Foxport, Martha Conn of Little Cabin Creek, Delma McCall of Big Cabin Creek, Linda Highfield and Glenda Highfield, both of Maysville; a special companion, Tiffany Hall; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Debbie Poe Highfield; and three brothers, Mitchell Highfield, Jerry Highfield and Ricky Highfield.
Services were at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 27 at Barbour and Son Funeral Home in Tollesboro. Burial was in East Fork Cemetery.
Owen Hockley
Owen Hockley, 76, of Thomasville, North Carolina, formerly of Iron Hill, died Tuesday, January, 26, 2010, at Liberty Wood Nursing Center.
Born in Carter County on July 10, 1933, to the late Claude and Alice Colley Hockley, he was a retired heavy equipment operator.
Survivors include one daughter, Dianne Collins of Thomasville; three sons, Steve Hockley and Keith Hockley, both of Thomasville, and Kevin Hockley of Greenup; two brothers, Frank "Bud" Hockley of Argillite and Glen Hockley of Vanceburg; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services were at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 30, 2010, at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson. Burial was in Kiser-McGinnis Cemetery.
Earl "Babe" Jordan
Earl "Babe" Jordan, 91, of Firebrick, died Monday, February 15, 2010, at Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, Ohio.
Born in Lewis County on February 15, 1919, to the late James Jordan and Emma Goodwin Jordan, he was retired from the former Goodyear Atomic Plant at Piketon, Ohio. He was a WW II Army veteran and attended Wrights Chapel Church at Garrison. He was a member of the Harrison Fullerton Masonic Lodge #937 of South Shore, Stone City Lodge #963 of Garrison and the Scottish Rite of Covington. He was also a member of the James L. Flannery American Legion Post 276 of South Shore.
Survivors include two sons, Earl D. (Judy) Jordan of Firebrick and Carl (Kathy) Jordan of Tollesboro; five grandchildren, Shane (Monica) Jordan, Tracy (Wayne) Cullen, Melissa (Tony) , Michael (Gera) and Jeremy; and six great-grandchildren, Connor, Bethany, McKenzie, Maggie, John and Jacob.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Louedia Harr Jordan, on November 5, 2008; and three brothers, Walter Hollaway, Russell Jordan and Cecil Jordan.
Services were at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 19, 2010, at Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore with Bro. Clarence Hall officiating. Burial was in Firebrick Cemetery at Firebrick.
Graveside military rites were accorded by James L. Flannery American Legion Post 276 of South Shore. Masonic services were conducted by Stone City Lodge #963 of Garrison.
