Mary Kathryn McCane, 86, of Vanceburg, passed away Friday, January 29, 2016, at her home with her family by her side.
Kathryn was born in Lewis County March 12, 1929, to the late Allen and Lyda Riley Thurman. She worked for US Shoe Corporation in Vanceburg as a cutter for more than 20 years. After her retirement form US Shoe she was a driver for Licking Valley CAP. Kathryn was a member of Black Oak Christian Church and was attending Clarksburg Christian Church.
Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Sanford “Hank” McCane, whom she married in Maysville on May 4, 1946; one daughter, Karen (Michael) Kempf of Fayetteville, Ohio; three sons, Jack (Sheila) McCane of Garrison, Danny (Portia) McCane of Vanceburg, and David (Cherie) McCane of Winchester; two brothers, Julius “Buster” (Martha) Kennedy of Mansfield, Ohio, and Guy Thurman of Norwalk, Ohio; one sister, Gladys Oney of Norwalk, Ohio; 21 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Michael A. McCane in 1994 and Joseph Allen McCane in 2002; four sisters, Flossie Wells, Juanita Thurman, Idena Kennedy and Betty Kennedy; two brothers, Earl Wells and Jess (Jr.) Kennedy; one grandson; and one great-grandson, Tanner Gilliam.
Services were at 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 1, 2016, at Clarksburg Christian Church with Pastor Lyle Parker and Bro. Arthur Moore officiating. Burial was in Muses Chapel Cemetery on Quicks Run.
Pallbearers were Jack McCane, Danny McCane, David McCane, Karen Kempf, Adam Christy, Andrew Swingler, Courtney McCane, Scott McCane Jackie Wayne McCane and Tim McCane.
Gaydos Funeral Home in Vanceburg was in charge of arrangements.
