Lions finish football season with big win! By Paula Franke and Gary Kidwell The Lewis County Lions football team had a ton of tricks up their sleeves on Halloween evening, and dished up a superb treat to the fans with a 38-22 home win over the West Carter Comets. With a 5-5 season record, it was the first non-losing season for the Lions since 1988. Action was fast-paced with the Comets drawing first blood on a 38-yard touchdown run. But the Lions' P.J. Price tied it up 8-8 after going over from two yards out and also scoring the extra point. Price added to the lead scoring again on a nine-yard run, and quarterback Tyler Liles hit Cory Liles for the extra point. The Comets fought back with another touchdown, but failed in their extra point attempt. But West Carter's Cory Shepherd stunned the crowd with an interception and running it back 80 yards to give the Comets a 22-18 halftime lead. However, the second half was all Lions as Casey Reed scored on an 11-yard run with Price adding the extra point. Price continued to steamroll with another touchdown from 46 yards and again from two yards out. Tyler Liles hit Zach Truesdell for the extra point to make the final score of 38-22. It was a memorable night for senior P.J. Price who gained 206 yards, scored four touchdowns and added two extra points. Ten other seniors played their last game along with Price: Kody Willis, Russell Smith, Nathan Zornes, Zach Truesdell, Brandon Bryant, Brett Evans, Ben McCann, Ricky Smith, Kyle Bentley and Ryan Bentley. The Lions finished 4-3 in the District and 4-2 in the Eastern Conference. All photos by Le Ann Kamer Click on a thumbnail to view the larger version of the photo
