Deputy Eric Poynter is investigating a fatal two vehicle accident Sunday evening on Ky. Rt. 8 near the Lewis/Greenup county line.
Poynter said the crash happened about 7:45 p.m. when two vehicles, a pick-up and passenger car, were traveling in opposite directions and collided on the roadway.
The operator of one of the vehicles was pronounced dead at Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, Ohio, and a passenger was airlifted to a trauma center, according to Poynter.
The roadway remained closed for about three hours as crews worked to clear the scene and investigate what occurred.
Poynter said further information will be released following the notification of family members.
Assisting at the scene were Deputy Bryon Walker, Firebrick Fire and Rescue, Garrison Fire and Rescue, South Shore Fire and Rescue, Portsmouth Ambulance, and Mike’s Towing.
