Donald Wayne Pace, 76, of Winchester, husband of Betty Barger Pace, passed away Monday, September 26, 2016.
He was born in Harlan County on February 20, 1940, to the late Ulysses Grant and Mary Wesley Pace. He was currently serving as superintendent for Lewis County Schools and previously served as superintendent of Montgomery, Mason and Campbell County school systems. He was the first principal of Conkwright Junior High School in Winchester, where he served for 16 years. He also served as Clark County Superintendent for 15 years. He attended Winchester First Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three children, Donna Gail Pace Melton, Donald (Shey) Pace Jr. and Chris (Shannon) Pace; six grandchildren, Patrick Melton II, Matthew Melton, Ella, Will, Logan and Jack Pace; a brother, Arthur Grant “AG” Pace; a nephew, Andrew Pace; an aunt, Anna Faye Bartle; and a host of friends, cousins, nieces, nephews, and other family members.
A Celebration of Life service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 1, 2016, at Conkwright Elementary School by Pastor Lee Cruse with remarks from Frank Vermillion, Chris Pace and other stories from those who wish to share.
Burial will follow in Winchester Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Don Burgess, John Gaines, Lee Taylor, Bob Berryman, Robert Lee, Joe Jones, Carl Hensley, Jackie McCloud, Bill Neismith, John Graybill, Joel Terry, Andrew Pace, JC Burton, Shane Burton, Jeff Burton and Von Barger. Honorary pallbearers will be Clark County Retired School Administrators, 1984-1999 members of the Clark County Board of Education, 1984-1999 Clark County Schools Central Office Staff, 1969-1984 staff of Conkwright Junior High School, current members of Kentucky Retired Teachers Executive and Insurance Committees, current members of the Kentucky Schools Facility Commission, members of the Winchester Kiwanis Club and members of the Right Angle Masonic Lodge 233.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. Saturday until time of service at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to the Donald Pace Youth Scholarship, c/o Kentucky Bank, 24 West Lexington Avenue, Winchester, KY 40391.
