Travel Tours brought 23 people from Foley, Minnesota, last Friday to visit
the Victorian Rose Tea Room. According to Joni Pugh, proprietor of the Rose,
she was contacted by a tour member two weeks before the visit because her
establishment had been seen in the Kentucky Tour Guide on the Internet. The

years ago on March 4, 1958. He worked first in Maysville and then began

at 211 Main Street on January 2, 1968, and remained there until the

Two 1990 graduates of Lewis County High
School were recently deployed from the 201st Engineer Battalion from Ashland
to support National Guard Relief Operations for Hurricane Katrina. CPT Danny
Kyle Prater of Vanceburg, above, briefs MG Donald Storm, Adjutant General of
Kentucky, and other members of the Kentucky national Guard, as well as Alecia
Webb-Edgington, Executive for the Governor's Office of Homeland Security, at
Naval Air Station Belle Chasse. Louisiana. Prater explained the logistical
support that the 201st EN BN was conducting in the Greater New Orleans area in
support of nearly 4,000 soldiers. The 201st has been in New Orleans since

Several tractor owners participated in
the tractor ride on Saturday. Inclement weather on the previous weekend
forced the drive to be postponed for a week. However, the delay did not
dampen participation. More than two dozen tractor drivers took part in the

County last week. The new LED lights are guaranteed to last eight years
before replacement and use less energy. The savings include less
maintenance, less electricity and higher visibility. All state-maintained

And the walls come tumbling down...the
building was constructed in the mid-1930s and was heavily damaged by a
fire in 2002, which claimed the life of Joe McCane. At the time of the
fire, the building housed McCane Computers and Tolle Barber Shop on the
ground floor and two apartments on the second floor. Mr. McCane was
trapped in one of the upstairs apartments at the time of the fire.

Sugarcreek, Ohio, operates the dozer loading old tires from the Tire Amnesty Program in
Lewis County onto the truck to be hauled to Columbus, Ohio. The program netted an

pressed into service as auctioneer of the 4-H Pumpkin Contest auction at the Harvest Day
Festival Saturday. Despite the threatening weather, the show went on, with Royal working
the crowd for double-digit winning bids for the 4-H'ers. Due to the weather, Harvest Day

Downtown Vanceburg will be receiving funding
for improvements to the streetscape thanks to a $200,000 grant made possible by
Vanceburg's silver level as a Renaissance Kentucky community. The grant was announced
Friday by Governor Paul Patton and comes from a portion of Kentucky's annual Surface
Transportation Program funds for projects that add community or environmental value to a
