Bob Brewer

Robert Gene “Bob” Brewer, 91, of Vanceburg, passed away Sunday, July 12, 2020, at Southern Ohio Medical Hospice Center in Portsmouth, Ohio.

He was born October 21, 1928, in Boyd County, a son of the late Harry and Etta Mae Lewis Brewer.

Bob retired after 32 years of service from the Goodyear Atomic Plant in Piketon, Ohio, as a member of Goodyear Atomic Plant Police Department. He was a member of the United Plant Guard Workers of America Local #66. Bob loved spending time with his family, reading, woodworking, being outdoors, fishing, hunting, and discussing politics. Bob was a lifetime member of the NRA. He was one of the founding members of the Black Oak Volunteer Fire Department and served 16 years as Chairman for the Fire District Protection Board. Bob served as past chairman for the Lewis County Republican Party and was a Kentucky Colonel.

Bob is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patricia Ruth Rouse Brewer; two sons, Brady Brewer (Sherry) and Lewis Brewer (Lamissa) of Vanceburg; one grandson, Curtis Brewer; one great-grandson, Curtis Grant Brewer; six step-grandchildren, Brandi McKinley (Britt), Beth McAdams (Jessica Thorton McAdams), Krista Marcum (Joey), Jerimey McAdams, TJ Morgan (Jasmine), and Kimberly Hunt (Michael); 14 step great-grandchildren; four step great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Jane Rother of West Chester, Ohio; and one brother-in-law, Dwight Rouse (Sandra) of Vanceburg. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, whom he loved very much, other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother who went missing in action during WWII, Curtis Brewer, and two sisters, Joy Himes and Janet Fugate.

Due to COVID-19, a private family graveside service was held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 16, 2020, in Lewis County Memory Gardens at Black Oak with Bro. John Byard officiating.

Bob’s family served as pallbearers.
