This image from a security camera at the South Portsmouth/Firebrick office of Citizens Deposit Bank & Trust is thought to be a suspect in a purse theft last Tuesday at SuperQuik in Vanceburg. The suspect allegedly attempted to cash a check taken from the purse and forged, according to a sheriff's department spokesman.

The Black Oak Volunteer Fire Department has added a new truck to its fleet, which will aid the department should any fires break out in the Black Oak Industrial Park. The truck has been specially equipped with a 35 foot extension ladder, which will allow access to the roof of the buildings in the industrial park. Kevin Cornette said the $132,000 truck was built by Central States Fire Apparatus and is a Class A pumper/tanker. In addition to the ladder, the truck is equipped with a 1,250 gallon-per-minute pump, access ladders, lights, a 1,000 gallon tank and a 25 gallon foam tank. (October 23, 2001, Dennis Brown)

Some of the items removed from Moore & White Lumber Company early Monday morning sit outside one of the buildings. Authorities are searching for three suspects in connection with the break-in. Two fled the scene in a dark colored Ford Tempo with passenger side damage about 5:00 p.m. when someone pulled into the company lot and spotted them. Kallmyer was injured Sunday afternoon in a single motorcycle accident on the AA Highway near the Lewis/Mason County line. Richmond said the motor on the vehicle seized, throwing the bike into a 166-foot skid. Kallmyer was wearing protective gear and was not seriously injured.
